THALENTE WANDILE MBATHA

FOOTBALLER

Born in 6 March 2000 Thalente Wandile Mbatha, a South African football player, competes as a defensive midfielder in the premier soccer league Orlando Pirates and the South African national team.

On his first international match in 2024, he scored a goal against the Uganda team.

Club career

At the age of ten, Mbatha started playing football with his hometown amateur team Real Rabbits. He was a player in the Under -11, Under -13 and Under 15 teams of the club. His talent had made him represent several age groups by the time he was thirteen to have a call to play in the Under-13 teams, Under-15 and Under-17.

At teenage level he played with Durban FC or where he refined his talents and acquired fame. Through his performances he was given an opportunity to get into professional league where he signed with Highlands Park FC in the South African premier league.

SuperSport United

He went on to represent SuperSport United of Tshwane.

Orlando Pirates

He agreed; a six-month contract with the Soweto-based club, Orlando Pirates was signed in January 2024, with an option of a permanent transfer. In 2023 he became the inaugural participant in the Nedbank Cup final against Mamelodi Sundowns where he won the man of the match in the 21 victory. His contract was further renewed in 202425 PSL season.

International career

On 6 September 2024, Mbatha represented the South Africa national men team in the qualifiers of the Africa Cup of Nations and made his debut against Uganda, scoring during his introduction, thus helping the team to draw.
